Drums and Junk Percussion

Drums are a kind of musical instrument called Percussion instruments – you make music by striking, or scraping, them.  You can use all sorts of junk materials to make drums and other junk percussion.

CARPET ROLL TUBES FROM CARPET SHOPS (5INCH WIDE) ARE GOOD FOR MAKING DRUMS WITH.  YOU CAN CUT THEM DOWN TO MAKE SMALLER DRUMS.

BISCUIT TINS AND LARGE COFFEE TINS CAN BE USED AND SOME PLASTIC CONTAINERS.  GIVE THEM A TAP AND SEE WHAT SOUND THEY MAKE.

WRAP CLINGFILM AROUND THE TUBE OR CONTAINER OR GLUE STIFF CARD ON TO THE TUBE.

YOGHURT POTS AND TUBES CAN BE MADE INTO DRUMS WITH A CUT OFF BALLOON.

DECORATE WITH COLOURED TAPES, CLOTH PAPER STUCK WITH DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE, PUT ON STRAPS WITH RIBBON. BEATERS CAN BE MADE WITH CHOPSTICKS WRAPPED WITH TAPE OR WITH A CORK ON THE END
