Just 1 Thing is about lots of people making small changes add up by working cooperatively; community providers and parent/carers. Come and join us to meet other people making things happen for SEND and vulnerable children, young people and families – from schools, community groups, local charities and parent-led associations. For example, you’ll meet:
- Vanessa and Fezza talking about Parks for Play’s new Inclusive Childcare service
- Betty sharing Shining Stars Association’s seven year experience of finding new venues for SEND activities
- Megan from Newbigin Community Trust and Julie and Ismail from Hamstead Hall highlighting the value of getting off-site for adventures
- Mumtaz from ATHAC sharing thoughts on transition to adult services and Craig and Shannon exploring the difference the new Forge service for young adults – led by Carolina House – has made
- Amy talking about her family’s experience of using the new Fit for All activities and Elizabeth explaining the difference access to outdoor adventure has made
- Sandra from Friction Arts reflecting on the importance of expression for all through access to arts
- Louise from Grow Family Services talking about how taking a collective break from advocacy recharges families
- Naz and parents from Balsall Heath CATS describing the huge range of activities opened up by their group.
You’ll leave with ideas, energy and contacts – and with the inspiration to try just more one thing to increase social inclusion for SEND young people and their families this year.
At Just 1 Thing you’ll learn about a new service – the Fit for All Club, which we are launching with Dens of Equality. It will provide more opportunities to open up venues for inclusive use and for families and young people to visit and enjoy different places and services. Membership is open to SEND young people now and – later this year – to more young people aged 4-18 years in Birmingham. Join us at the event and help to shape the directions the Club takes.
