The Leathersellers Company is the liveried company representing people involved in the leather industry and dates back to its first Royal Charter in 1444. The Company offers small grants of up to £5,000 to charities and Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs) registered and operating in the UK. The next round opens at 10am on 2 January 2024.
To apply, charities and CIOs must meet the following criteria:
- Operate in a deprived area in the UK (as measured by the government’s indices of multiple deprivation)
- Deliver activities to meet an identified need for vulnerable members of the community
- Have a planned expenditure of under £200,000 in 2023/24
Note: most of Birmingham and North Solihull count as deprived areas – but you can check out your neighbourhood using a link on the Company’s website.
The Company does not fund:
- Medical research
- Hospices
- Capital restoration projects for the sole purpose of conservation/heritage
- Services that charge participants for access, irrespective of a beneficiary’s ability to pay.
Charities can apply for a grant from 10am on 2 January 2024 – the current round will close when the Company has received 45 applications. There is advice and guidance on applying and the application form is available online.
